I haven't been afraid of the Dark since I was 5. How can a Black person be afraid of Darkness? There was so much beauty in me. Or so they said. I was raised in the hood where we told ourselves we were beautiful because no one else would. America believed the only thing you could find in the Dark was hatred. But at school, we learned that Truth also lies in wait there.

I couldn't see my beauty, but I knew it was there. So I realized the only way to find my beauty was to abandon my fear. Instead, I fell in love. There is fear, hate, sadness, loneliness, rejection, and doubt residing in the Dark. But so are healing, creation, beauty, and evolution. You can have anything you seek in the Dark, so why choose fear?
